Minky’s Monday Musings~ It’s a good thing she’s pretty.

My darling friend, brilliant actor {and most missed hair dresser evah} Hunky Paul is one of the funniest men on the planet. As well as being hunky. One of my favorite sayings of his- and he has many fabulous sayings- which he uses whenever someone does something dumb is “It’s a good thing she’s pretty.” {or he}

Oh, Kim Kardashian. It’s a good thing she’s pretty. And pretty she is! I think we can all agree on that, non? I mean…the hotness! But when she tweeted an anti-breast feeding tweet the other day she had no idea that can of worms {and whoopass} she opened up. The tweets were flying faster than the tempers, she tried to turn back time and un-say it, clarifying what she meant but I am not sure it’s going to work.

I must admit that Β I love Keeping up With The Kardashians. You all know I love me some ‘reality‘ tv! (Depsite my proclamaition that I was going to blog about the Bachelorette and then promptly, well, not doing so. {It’s not MY fault this season is the suckitude!}) But considering she comes from a family where one sister waxes another one’s vuvuzela in the kitchen and then (Ted Bundy) the one’s hubby comes in carrying the newborn and suggests putting frozen peas on the burned newly waxed you-know-what…I’m just sayin I simply don’t believe that people in glass houses…blah blah blah. Oh, I include myself in that glass houses shebang. And not just because I am klutzy.

You know what I mean, right?

And thus this VERY long winded Monday Musing is about Kim Kardashian. And Breast feeding. And Rabbi Shmuley. And totally proves that I should not be allowed to vlog without my (fearless leader, editor) husband.
Riddle me this…Who is showing more?

{yes, I am nursing in a car. no, it’s not moving.}

I am not one to really blog about controversial things. But it’s about time that breastfeeding stopped being controversial.

  1. I’m so with you. I just don’t get how feeding a baby is a horrid, “gross” act, yet walking around with your boobs hanging out in other situations is “hot.” Get over it, people.

    • It’s a double standard that makes me crazy! As long as boobs are sexualized it’s ok, but using them for something else, like feeding a baby and it’s innapropriate.
      So wrong.

  2. Totally agree!!! BRAVO Steph!! And I totally wish I could post my pic of me breast feeding in a non-moving car, showing much less skin!! πŸ™‚

  3. Although this post is not about Formula Feeding I have to THANK YOU for saying it is okay and saying you support people who formula feed! I could not breastfeed because I was on medication for epilepsy (more harm to baby then good) and I got so much slack for it. So THANK YOU! This is so refreshing. πŸ™‚

    • This is a battle I don’t understand…I do believe that breast is best but for some people it is simply NOT an option and what do we serve by making those mothers feel terrible? Nothing. All we do is bring our support systems down further.
      You made the right choice for you and your child. And that is ALL that matters. Formula is not poison, you are a good mother for making sure your child receives the sustenance baby needs. You get an A+++++ for that and you just let all the nay sayers go right over your head. Don’t take any of it in. Doesn’t do you or baby any good!
      I hold no judgement when I see mothers bottle feeding, I just smile and think what a beautiful baby! I’m glad you stopped by!

  4. Amen Sister (o: I am a pro-breastfeeding mom!!! Breastfed all of my babies … Kim, it is very good you are pretty, because you are not the brightest crayon in the box (o:

    • It just cracked me up that she was all judgy about it when the girl and her family are like…famous for nekkidness! And I don’t judge that, but I’m just sayin if you are always out and about with the goods displayed for all to see don’t get on your high horse if someone feeds their baby near you.

      It is a good thing she’s pretty.

  5. Kimmy K is ignorant.
    Based on that picture I would never have even known you were breastfeeding, but her boobs are definitely all up in everyone else’s face constantly for absolutely no good reason.

    She’s not even a parent. She should keep her big trap shut.

    • WORD! If I were walking around in a low cut shirt no one would think anything of it, but nurse? Ugh. Good for you!

  6. Bravo! I totally agree with everything that you said. I also need the encouragement, as it is hard breastfeeding sometimes. Sometimes, I feed weird breastfeeding my six-month-old. Also, sometimes I wish that I could formula feed just so I don’t have a kid hanging off my boob. Most of the time, I love the bond with her. We all should ignore ignorant people, although it is really hard. I love your blog, BTW!

    • Don’t feel weird! It’s their issue not yours. You’re doing right by your baby. I hear ya on the boob thing, my son is 23 months old, I’m starting to get the ‘when ARE you going to wean him?’ comments. And sometimes I am so tired of him wanting to nurse for a split second all day long. But I love it. And I am so glad that I am able to nurse.
      Happy you stopped by!

  7. Ha, that’s funny! I always tell my son “It’s a good thing you’re cute.”

    I missed the KK controversy so I just Googled it. I can see why people went nuts, but … I bf’d both my babies but was never a whip-it-out-in-public type of person. I was the one in the car w/ a blanket. To each her own, I suppose.

  8. Breast feeding is as natural as walking. Not sure why people are so hung up on seeing this display in public. Seriously, we can see more of Kim Kardashian’s boobs in a magazine than a mother breastfeeding her baby in public! BTW, THANKS for visiting me on my sits day and making me feel special!

  9. I like how she says it was the changing diaper that was “ew” but then responds with “My sister breast feeds! Its a natural beautiful thing, there’s nothing wrong w it, but she covers herself, not w her boobs exposed.” So it really was about the breastfeeding.

    So sad that boobs alone are ok, but boobs with babe being fed are not? Interesting.

    • The best is that Kourtney says she has to cover up so no one takes a pic ( a disturbing reality but a smart move on her part) but if she didn’t have that concern she would totally feed ber bambino au natural! GO KOURT!! I’m so glad you stopped by! I’ll be visiting your blog this evening!

      • Ha, so her sis is pro whipping it out, hopefully she gave kim crap for this whole whoopla too πŸ˜€

        Thanks for your comments on my blog, sorry it is major pic overload, keeps grandma and great grandma over in cali in the loop.

  10. you are hilarious! i nurse my son whenever and wherever i need to and if that’s in my car in the parking lot of Trader Joe’s then so be it πŸ™‚ – just became a follower and would love to have you follow me at mangia-bella.blogspot.com – have a glorious day sweet bella

  11. Well it’s a good thing you’re pretty….and have more than a few brain cells to rub together! Enjoyed the vlog, you’re a natural on camera. Didn’t hear about this controversy but the whole breastfeeding in public thing is just an ongoing thorn in our boobs.

    I’ve blogged before about the attitudes I’ve gotten from Africa, my homeland of all places, to feeding my children in public. I don’t care. I’ve nursed while standing on a crowded bus before…sometimes you have no choice when there’s a hungry bubba to feed. You’re right, the double standard between ‘hottie’ exposed and ‘mommie’ exposed is ridiculous. Most of the time, we’re not even showing…unlike dear Kim. Thanks for the good laugh and plenty to think (steam) about!

  12. Preach on!
    I love when people make statements condemning/questioning breast feeding and then try to backtrack because of the public reaction. *inserteyeroll* While I didn’t breastfeed for very long, I still support all the women that do…and that do so in public. Love your writings, keep it up!
